Frequently Asked Questions

When do I start the Gather process with my customer?

Once you’ve reached a deal with your car buying customer and they are headed into the F&I office to finalize the purchase, you are ready to move forward with the Gather process.

How will I know Gather is working on my customer?

Once the customer has completed the Gather process, the salesperson will receive an email confirmation that Gather has successfully captured the pertinent information and is processing the request. Once we’ve verified the customer’s identity and auto insurance status, we will send the salesperson a “Customer Verification Report” via email indicating whether or not they have passed our analysis. If they passed, Gather will work with the insurance carrier to obtain updated insurance cards and will forward them to the salesperson when they become available.

How will Gather communicate with me about the status of my customer?

All communications regarding Gather’s analysis of your customer will be delivered via email to the car sales professional on the deal. On occasion we may have questions regarding the information the customer provided during the Gather process. When this occurs, we will call and/or text the salesperson directly to get the answers we need as quickly as possible and ensure a speedy delivery for your customer.

If my customer starts going through the Gather process but doesn’t finish, will I still be charged?

No, you will only be charged for customers that complete the Gather process.

What is the difference between the Standard and Enhanced program?

The Enhanced program offers everything the Standard program does with the addition of one feature: If the customer passes Gather’s process - meaning, their identity and active insurance coverage has been verified - the Enhanced program offers insurance coverage on the vehicle for up to 8-days or until the contract has been funded, whichever comes first. This can be particularly helpful if you are selling a vehicle after standard business hours and want your customer to take delivery before the insurance documents become available.

At the time of signing up with Gather, your dealership can choose whether to run all customers through the Standard or Enhanced program - or, you can choose to give your car sales professionals the option of running either package depending on the circumstances.

What if I select the Standard package but change my mind and want to run the Enhanced package?

If, when your dealership signed up with Gather, you chose to give your car sales professionals the option of running the Standard or Enhanced package, you will also have the option to upgrade to the Enhanced package if you initially selected Standard. If your deal qualifies for the upgrade, your car sales professional will receive an email notifying them of the opportunity. If you would like to proceed with the upgrade, simply call our Insurance Operations Department at (682) 405-9615 or email us at enhanced@gather.technology. Please be sure to mention the VIN number of the vehicle your customer is purchasing to ensure we upgrade the correct deal.

Will Gather send me the updated insurance cards with the new vehicle information?

Our goal is always to get you the updated insurance cards as quickly as possible. When we are able to obtain updated insurance cards depends on the relationship we have with that particular insurance carrier/agent. Some carriers/agents will send us the updated insurance cards right away, in which case we will forward them to the salesperson on the deal immediately. Others will send it directly to the customer.

Even if the insurance cards are sent directly to the customer, we still have a way to usher them to you. Each customer receives an email from Gather after they go through the Gather process, letting them know that their insurance carrier has been notified of the policy update and that they should be expecting insurance cards to arrive. The customer is encouraged to forward those insurance cards to Gather when they surface. When we receive the updated insurance cards we will send them to the salesperson on the deal immediately.

Will Gather communicate with my customer?

Yes. Customers who pass our identity and insurance verification analysis will receive up to two emails from Gather. The first email is sent four hours after we have processed their verification (so not to disrupt your deal flow) and communicates three things to the customer:

  • That the insurance carrier has been notified of the policy update request.
  • That the customer should expect to receive updated insurance cards and a binder from the insurance carrier and to forward those documents to Gather once received. (In most cases, Gather will receive the updated insurance cards directly from the carrier/agent and this will not be necessary.)
  • That buying a new car is often a good time to speak with their insurance agent to ensure the proper coverage is in place and they are maximizing all possible discounts.

If after one day Gather has not yet received the updated insurance cards, a reminder email will be sent to the customer.

Additionally, Gather reserves the right to send marketing messages to the customer in the future via email or text message. The customer will always have the option to opt out of these communications.

I know my customer personally; why did they fail the identity verification?

There are two reasons why a customer may have failed the identity verification portion of Gather’s analysis and not be a fraud risk. These are:

  • The photo(s) taken of the customer themselves and/or their driver’s license were blurry. This is the most common reason for failure. If this occurs, we will ask the salesperson to have the customer go through the Gather process again to capture clearer images. Running a customer through the Gather process for a second time for this reason will not result in an additional charge.
  • The customer had significant plastic surgery (e.g. rhinoplasty) since their driver’s license photo was taken.
